I have a heather - don't know what type, or anything about it, apart from the fact that it has cream flowers about end of May or when the weather is hot.
After about 4 years, it is looking very bare and the leggy, woody stems are unsightly. Can I cut it hard back into the wood? If so, when? Should I take it out and replace it?

I think you should probably call it a day on this one. Heathers are unlikely to shoot from old wood. You can pile up the soil round leggy heathers & in time the shotos will root to produce new plants, but by the look of things it would be rather a gert big heap!
