i wouldnt plant any seeds yet as they need a certain temperature to start growing. quite a few plotters on my site are well on their way with their seedlings as they have got heaters in their greenhouses. part of me wants to plant now to try and catch up but then logic tells me that no matter when they start a plant will only produce so much fruit or veg so it doesnt matter when you plant them. what i have done is bought a plastic greenhouse from liddle and when i start planting i will start them of in there. put your potting compost in your greenhouse so when you do come to planting it is a little bit warmer than shop bought
takes over your life doesn't it

Hi GG, i would wait until the temperature rises, (mid April) before trying to germinate seeds in a cold greenhouse as most seeds need a steady temperature of 20-30c (68-86f), day and night time to germinate, you could pergerminate your seeds in doors on a windowsill, airing cupboard in plastic bags filled with compost, and when signs of life shows, place them out side into your cold greenhouse around April, they will need to be harden off before leaving them out all the time
hope this helps

Hi GG, as windy says you can start seeds off now in an airing cupboard or on a warm windowsill. If your greenhouse is at home, you can put them out into the greenhouse during the day (provided the weather is not too severe) and bring them back into the house at night. It can be a bit of trouble but putting pots and seed trays into cardboard fruit boxes from the supermarket will make carrying them about easier. I have been using this method for many years and have never had any problems with it. Just dont take chances on cold nights or days.
Hope that helps. ;)

Hi gardening giraffe,
I planted sunflower seeds and nasturtiums and they're on the windowsill in my cellar for 2 weeks and nowts come up. So, I'd wait for abit if I were you. I even tried being nosey and dug one of the seeds up but no signs of germination  :-\

Hope they grow  >:(
