Unfortunately no. I have grown Sungold, Tigrella, and Sungella, all together in a greenhouse, and Sungella does not taste as good as its parents. In addition, it is much more prone to blight, and I have therefore not grown it again.

I've just ordered Sungella seeds thinking it tastes like Sungold!
Still going to try it though. Why is it sold if it doesn't taste as good as its parents?
I love the flavour of Sungold (my local PYO grow it every year) but didn't like the fact it's a hybrid.

Trouble with comparisons is that 1 in 3 fruit off the same plant can be tasteless.

And remember that cherries like to be under-watered to give sweetness.

Ricado

how much water stress is tolerable though, before it weakens the plant and makes it succeptible to disease ?

and what is the best way to find the most recently bred varieties.

I dindnt know sungella existed until i came across it on the shelf of my local GC.

I was expecting something extra special, so i didnt mind the £3 i cost me for 20 seeds, I hope the taste is not too dissapointing though  :(

The taste of Sungella is just average, and nowhere as good as Sungold, which I see from the latest Which, is still the one to beat for taste.
But the real problem with Sungella, is its lack of resistance to blight, even in a greenhouse.
