Blue Polythene

Not sure if this has been asked before, so here goes. Is blue polythene of any use for cloches? I fear there may be a light problem, anyone used it for this purpose if so what were the results?

I have an abundance of it at the mo ::) ;D

No never used blue polythene before Roy, but you may be right  about the light.   I think i would try it on one cloche and see how it go's don't know till you try.

I think you may find it's UV sensitive, and could degrade quickly. It is made to lay under concrete so no need for UV proofing. I have a feeling I read somewhere they make it this way so it does break down if builders abandon it , or it gets dumped.

i cant imagine it helping the light situation as it will filter out some of the light colours that plants need and so would cause your plants to be funny shapes.

Trying to think of a use for it......you could use it as a weed membrance??

I think I may give it a go as GR says, twood be a waste other wise, Brian it's not thick enough as a damp proof membane as it is only about 500 grade I believe a 1000 grade is what they use under concrete, but it's still quite tough, if all else fails Adam a weed suppressant it will be. ;D

i say give it a go roy to, Itll last for what you need it for and some, I use the clear stuff bit better for the light but a bit of heat doesnt go amiss either ! 1 out of 2 cant be that bad
