A water butt without a shed?

I have been bought a water butt intended for use on my plot, however there is no shed down there. ( and I can't afford to buy one)..I know in theory you could collect water without a roof to run off but do any of you know if this works in practice??

hi, yes it will work, but not fast enough, but if you can find one or two sheets of corrugated and some posts that will give you a larger run off area. maybe enough for two butts
