Have been using horse poo up until now but as my 2 chickies produce so much poo I was wondering how long people generally leave it before digging it in?  I know it is fantastic as my compost rotted down so quickly for the first time ever but I don't want to burn anything down the lottie  ;D

I'll be interested to hear answers aswell. It's amazing how much poo such small creatures can produce :o ::) ;)

With us the chicken manure goes into the compost bins mixed up with lots of straw, kitchen scraps and garden waste. I left it for a year before using and it made lovely compost, my bins are in a shady spot though so perhaps much less than a year is your compost heap is in full sun. I also use their manure neat to make a liquid manure but it stinks so not sure if I'll make any this year.

I add mine to the pallet compost bins. They are bedded on wood shavings so leave it for about 12 months before I use it.

I also have a darlek at home for kitchen waste. I add neat chicken poo to these, no shavings, and I get compost ready to use in 3 to 4 months as they help to heat up the compost.

When my current bale of wood shavings is finisihed in a month or so I am going to cut over to Hemcore, http://www.hemcore.co.uk/bedding.html , this is meant to break down far quicker than wood shavings.
