Hiya EJ (and anyone else in the Strelitzia reginae appreciation society)

Mine opened while I was away over the weekend, which was a nice surprise. So hopefully I shall have it at its best over Christmas!

Still waiting on mine!! Lovely Moonbells, am getting very impatient!   ::) ;D ;)

Fab Moonbells.  I have had one open now for about 5 weeks.  Such long lasting flowers!  And joy of joy, one bud only days away from bursting, and another still growing, so hopefully, flowers right into spring!   You are so clever as your's is only a baby still!  Fabulous!!

I can't take credit for a plant deciding to flower - after all I nearly killed it by letting the red spider mite nearly take out all the leaves in 04...  perhaps extreme stress makes a plant try and set seed faster than it would have otherwise done.  Not that I want to try it deliberately!

I did hope for more than one spathe but don't think I'll be getting another this year.  Mustn't grumble! Dad's been trying to get one to grow for some time and his plant just won't get beyond a tiddly foot-high.  I guess they're just finicky!

Lottie - do you have one in bud or are you just waiting for it to grow a spike?

pop them in a pot of compost and grit without their orange fluffy bits,  water gently,  keep damp but not overwatered and in a warm place for several months. One day when you're fed up of looking you might find one has sprouted. They take ages to germinate, but once you have a couple or so leaves they're pretty robust.  I call them my patience plants! Minimum time to flowering is about 3.5 years from germination. Mine's now 4.5 years old, hence EJ referring to it as a baby!

I had 8 seeds and eventually got 7 to germinate, but the last one was about 6 months after sowing, so don't give up on them.
