Hi folks,  a bit of a newcomer to A4A, so please excuse my ignorance in advance !
In browsing through this years seed catalogues, I came across  'Cuisses De Poulet Du Poitou' , a long shallot , in Simpson's Seeds.
I have grown Eschallote Gris (badly) & Longor (better results), but have never heard of these.
Anybody tried them before ?

No - but I always use long varieties like Longor or Jermor - much more user-friendly in the kitchen.

@tim,

i saw some offered in a seed catalogue today. they sell them by 250gms and a kilo.
have you any idea how many bulblets might be in 250 grams?

Are those shallots grown from seed? And will you be growing some seed grown shallots as sets next year?

Never grown pickling onions from seed as I always use shallots for pickling. They are perfect pickles. Some are to big sometimes so I have to slice them in half. Excerlent with a cheese buttie :D

1. Those, Snail, are my bought-in sets. Which are grown from seed.

2. Pickled shallots? Yes - always! And the long varieties fit in the jar better. And don't split into 2 when you're peeling them.
