Several organic apple growers here in Holland put trees up for adoption. I think it's a lovely gift for someone, especially for children.

When you adopt a tree, your name or the name(s) for whom it was adopted is put on it and the harvest is for that person. There are apple blossom and apple harvest picnic days organized but you can visit your tree any time you want.

These pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago, the two tikes are my nephews.

What a lovely idea for a pressie - especially for peeps with no garden or those in flats.

I sometimes forget how fortunate we are to have our own fruit supplies in the garden/on lottie.

If you don't make mistakes, you'll never make anything!

Ina. That is a brilliant idea, my eldest daughter would love that idea, she spends a lot of money on apples for three (grown up) girls and a horse!!    Lorna.

The National Trust did something like this at a place near us, called Erddig. They have part of the National collection of apple varieties. People were invited to sponsor trees there. We were one of the few couples who did so and there is an apple tree somewhere there with our names and message attached.
Gardening is the great leveller.

There's a farm out in Essex that does a 'rent a tree' scheme for apples. Always meant to sign up...
Nothing rhymes with orange...

ooooooo, must look into this as it is a fab idea....mind you, apples I have in abundance, what I would really adore is a pear tree!

Great idea Ina....I am thinking about it for our Nephews!

I know there's a new venture near York that does this.
