Don't know if everyone already knows this but as its getting closer I just thought I'd alert everyone to the fact that on October 3rd, next Monday, we will be able to view a partial solar eclipse in the UK.  Spain and Africa get the full annular eclipse lucky so and so's.  If you have your viewer ready between 8 and 10 am you should be able to see a bite being taking out of the Sun.

And remember NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT AN ECLIPSE no matter how tempting it may be.  Not that I enjoy advertising but this months Astronomer magazine has full details.

Did not know about this one, but lucky me I am off to Ibiza on the 2nd.

I knew about it, but wasn't sure what time, so thanks for that.

My sister is an astrophysics researcher, working and living in Spain. So she's very annoyed that she's in the UK next Monday and will miss the full eclipse.

Aquilega that's the career I'm going for and the reason I'm back in college 17 years after leaving school.  I'm very jealous of your sister...but what bad timing  :(

Maddy - good for you! Must be a challenge. Where are you studying? And what level? Big Sis has an MSCi and a PhD. I have no idea what she does, something to do with the Herschel satellite. She has told me many times, but my brain does not cope with science stuff. (I'm the arty one in the family!) Good luck with your studies!
