Not being a big fan of corn on the cob I planted mini-pop sweetcorn from Sutton seeds instead.   The packet states that being mini they are even great for patio pots etc.

Fair enough but mine are now around 7 feet tall,  gorwing rapidly and no sign of even the main flower spike yet.  These are the biggest and healthiest of all the allotments even though they weren't sown until the end of July.

If you are growing this variety can you tell me if this is normal or has the packet contained the wrong seed?

Thanks Iain

yes it's right - they are giant plants. Much bigger than standard sweetcorn. Mini only means the cobs!!!

You must pick the cobs off when you see tassels poking out - and definitely before the tassels get more than an inch long!

I have to go and pick mine over tomorrow as I haven't had chance to go up this weekend.

How many mini cobs can you expect to get per plant?
gone to pot :D

Thanks moonbells - no sign yet of any flowers etc so I must have at least a few days yet but at least that has set my mind at rest!   If nothing else will grow them again next year just because they are such impressive healthy looking plants!

Picked mine yesterday, have to say left my tassels a bit long! But what a load of silks and husks for such a small reward, but they are going to taste lovely though! ;D

Lucky you DP !  ;D   Mine are in the same state as yours Iain !     About 8ft tall and not a flower, tassle, silk or cob in sight !!   ::)    We'll have to compare notes in October !   ;)   ;D   I'll try again next year too, as they are really handsome plants.

;D ;D ;D ;D  Down rescuing my wind trashed plants yesterday and I became the proud owner of 2 mini sweetcorn...or more accurately the children did.  They looked good and disappeared fast enough so assuming good flavour as well!

Hopefully the start of many so much happier now   ;D
