Hi,

We have got a poly carbon glass greenhouse - 8ft x 6ft (won it in a competition - have I mentioned that??  ;) ;D ;D) to put up in the autumn, so am planning ahead?

1. How unbreakable is it? - we want to put it at the bottom of the garden, but the kids at the back are always knocking balls over the fence, could they break it?!

2. Advice on staging - we want it down one side, bit overwhelmed by the choice and astounded at the cost of it - can anyone recommend where to get it from/ ways of making it on the cheap?

3. advice on aspect/ positioning - is it best north to south - east to west etc.....?

thanks everyone, and have a great weekend!  :)

HI  Daisymay,
I have just bought a Greenhouse at B & Q`s -- 8x6 -£300.
I have just bought Staging £180 - 3 sections joined together--expensive bought at Garden Centre.Looked at B & Q`s Staging and it was rubbish.
Their Auto Roof Vent was £22 and works well.I have sited my G/hse on an existing concrete area which is `north -South, ideally it should be sited East /West for Max light thro year.I have also Polycarbonate Panes ,because I was frightened the grandchildren would run into normal glass, or kick a ball into it.When fitting white edging to the p/carbonate its a Pain at first, but it comes easy after a while-- you`ll curse at first-- it was the worst part of erecting g/hse.Now just run in Armoured cable from house for the electrics in the winter months--propagator & frost free heater
It took me on my own ,entirely, approx 8hrs just to erect g/hse only.Hope all goes well with Greenhouse I`m sure it will

Thanks.

I got Two Wests & Elliott catalogue through after you recommended it on another thread, was not sure if they were expensive or not compared to others, having looked around all staging seems to be a bit on the pricey side compared to what I imagined. Never mind, least the greenhouse was free!

polycarb is tough stuff so the ball should be ok, aslong as its not really heavy one.

i just have an old plastic table in my greenhouse as staging, does the job.

Also best to have some kind of soild floor i think. i have a stones down either side of a flagged path. if not weeds can grow within days in the GH heat.

i think a greenhosue watering system is good to have, or maybe elecy, it is possible to have both but be careful with how you position things.

thanks for your comments.

We finally found a home for the wendy house (I posted on the swop shop) at the weekend thanks to EmmaLou and it was on some really great slabs - exactly 6ft x 8ft so we can put the greenhouse straight on that when we get round to building it. Going to have one side open to the soil to plant into and the other with the slabs.
