Got an offer of a couple of small bales of straw  ;D

I know I can put some of it in amongst the compost heap...what else can I do with it?

All ideas welcome!!

think I read on here earlier that you can pack it round tender plants for winter protection.

I use it on my pathways, to stop them being soggy underfoot!  I also cover my potatoes with the pathway material, then re-do my pathways with fresh.

Straw can be put around strawberry plants, to keep the fruits clean.  Could also do that with squosh when trying to get them to ripen, keeps them off damp soil!

The other thing I do is with rhubarb.  When trying to 'blanche' the fruit stems, using a bottomless dustbin, I put in straw to encourage the stems to grow longer up to the light.  Gives extra pink bits! :D

Daisy is correct too, its great stuff for insulation, and warmth, to keep off the frosts. ;)
