...from the Thai tourist info. site:

"the phaakammaa is a very handy item - it can be used to sleep on or as a light bedspread, as a make-shift shopping bag, as a turban-scarf to keep off the sun and absorb perspiration, as a towel, as a small hammock and as a device with which to climb coconut palms"...

Perfect to take up the lottie in the summer Lish! ;D (you could also use it to put all your weeds in to transport to the compost heap! :))
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.

Doris, when I typed out what it was called, I thought I was going to end up with the Thai equivalent of the Pak-a-mac  ... anyone old enough to remember them? And the de-luxe version had a dinky little pleated concertina-d rain hat in the pocket??

More lesser known facts:-

1) "One of the more unusual sights is at the 'Temple of the Cave of the Golden Dragon'. The temple itself is nothing special but is famed throughout Thailand for its 'floating nun'. This entails the unusual spectacle of a Thai mae chii or nun floating on her back while meditating in a pool of water. Pious Buddhists come to witness this act and to receive the nun's blessings."

2) Thailands's Famous:

The 1988 Miss Universe was from Thailand. Her first
    name is 'Porntip'.
