;D This could be interesting, as I thought you should gently squeeze the pods, if firm, pull em, if not leave em a while, but on another thread I was told they are more tender if collected earlier, so I was going to try the younger beans next time I collect. ;D

Watch this space. ;D

sammyd

jus squeezed mine and still not sure..

Do i cook them whole or jus the beans..

my first year at the lottie and my other three helpers are as cluleess as me....

TEL

Shell the bean if a good size boil for about 4 minutes.
The smaller the beans the better i think.

I like to pick broad beans when about 4 - 5 inches long, and cook them whole, with salt and pepper, stir-fried in butter.

Hi jennym
Never tried that what do the pods taste like & what is the texture like.

jennym

Tasty, fairly firm texture. I don't like them raw. If they get a littke bigger, I chop them up first.

If very big I just eat the beans inside. First shell them, then drop them into boiling water for five minutes, drain in cold, pinch the end to squeeze out the inner and discard the leathery skin,. then boil for another 5 minutes and serve.
They freeze well too.

mm...

looking forward to eatin them in the morrow....

Boil the beans for a few minutes until tender, then drain off.  Fry several rashers of smoked bacon, then fry the beans in the bacon fat.  Serve with new potatoes and white sauce.   Yummy
