hi
I just got offered an allotment today.   ;D
I  have got some king edward seed potatoes that i just didn't have space for in my garden.  Is it too late to put them in now or should i try it?  What else should i try to grow now?  Is it too late for courgettes and butternut squash?

Congrats on your allotment!

I would say, if the seed spuds are well chitted, then why not get them in!  Might not get monster spuds, but I can't see why you wouldn't get a very useable harvest.

And you are not to late with the squashes.  Some folk on our site are only just putting out their plants, and I am going to sow some cukes and courgettes next week to try and lengthen the 'picking' season well in to the autumn, altho they will be under glass.

hi
Thanks for the reply.  I will put them in as soon as i get the go ahead.  I haven't even sown my squash seed, i ran out of space and time at home ( 3 very  young gardeners at home  like to give me a hand.. or at times, not!)  Could i plant the seed straight in the ground under cloches for initial protetion?

I would say yup.  This time of year, so warm, they should be up in no time.....so long as you can give them a drop of water once in a while.  ;D

No probs there, the tap is at the end of my plot ;D it's going to save my legs alot of walking.  Between the tap and the strawberry patch i'm inheriting  I am a very excited lady.   :)

hi
Thanks for your replies.  We went down earlier and dug over a small patch and put them in.  At least we have something in the ground now.  Will let you know how they go.   It's amazing how much we got done in the time we had.
