Hi all,

I have just got into growing and things are a bit trial and error at the moment. I wondered if you may be able to clarify something for me.

I ordered some strawberry plants that will be delivered this month and they are supplied as bareroot. I have no idea what this is, or what the alternatives are - could someone explain? And is there anythign i should be aware of.

I was just going to put them in a strawberry planter with compost and water - then hope for the best!

Many thanks
Liam

Granny_Smith

They will arrive without any compost - just bare roots tied in a bundle, and will probably have come from cold storage too. Just give them a good soak in a bucket of water, then get them planted. You'll be surprised at how quickly they perk up. Don't expect too much from them this year tho'.
I had some earlier this year and because they arrived at the beginning of the Easter holiday, the local Post Office kept them for 4 days before delivering them to me!!! They all survived their ordeal.
Granny is still your best friend !

Thanks very much!

Never thought there would be so much to learn about growing fruit an veg!

Only started a month ago roughtly and am in a bit too deep. I have started to grow:

Sweetcorn
Round courgettes
tomatoes
round carrots
italian brocoli
strawberries (when they arrive).
coriander
and i forget the name of the other herb now!

All a first try! The seeds ere free with magazines so i thought imight as well stick them in a pot and see what happens.
