Rats, can't remember the name!  There is a climber, begins with letter 'A', I think, which has slightly chocolate scented small flowers in spring but is an absolutely rapid climber, rather like a Jasmine but doesn't take over or strangle other things.  Hope someone might know what I'm talking about.  Also, it is evergreen so quite satisfying.  Sorry, if I get the chance will try to post name!   :-\ :D

It's called Akebia Quinata it can grow up to 40' in a single growing season & if it's not maintained it will smother anything & everything in it's path although if it is pruned anually it does look nice has a chocolate scented flowers & produces sometimes followed by edible fruit.

Thanks from me too!  Is exactly it!  Mine seems to grow very high but certainly does't appear to have damaged anything at ground level.  However, I do keep an eye on it!

Best of luck with your planting Maggie :D
