My allotment neighbour has a greenhouse covered in plastic.. I gave him some tomato plants last week and within a couple of days they were streets ahead of mine in a conventional greenhouse.. maybe the plastic holds the heat/humidity better?
Certainly more cost effective and if those results were anything to go by it works better too
Cheers

Ta Derek. My OH wants to cover it in plastic nailed to wooden battens. I know that it will become a shed - dirty great planks of wood with a couple of strips of plastic for windows :(
Phil recommends 500 ml gauge plastic and I have found some on a web site which is about £35 so that looks favourite.
Just got to get the money off OH ;D

Arrgh................... wind...................
My plastic greenhouse took off. We had a mini tornado type thingy. My overspill was an old market stall, made of metal and hammered into ground, then covered with plastic poly tunnel sheets! Still took off.
Spent yesterday rescuing my morning glories, snap dragons, cues, herbs , cabbages and hanging basket plants. Luckily not too many have been composted.
Even more determined to get another proper greenhouse now. this is the second year my plastic has flown. Last years was worse, it went three gardens over. I had one of those 24.99 jobs then.
I am surprised my neighbours do not have their cam corders out at the slightest sign of wind. Look out for me on You've been framed next year.

Had to laugh at that :-X(sorry)
But my mums took of last year and missed next door and landed in flats past them.
Must have reached good altitude! :o
If it went the other way it may have made a landing on runway 26L at Gatwick :-X
I just had to send mum a text telling her that her GH was going clockwise on M25 past junction 10........

Sorry to hear of your greenhouse woes folks but still had to laff at visions of them sailing off into the wide blue yonder. They probably have a destination, you know like elephants have their graveyard .... ;D

;DAll my mums plants have a destination like the elephants! The graveyard! :-X :-X :-X
She has good intentions but she would be better off helping us at plot rather than murdering plants at home :o Second thoughts...
She would probably weed out newly plants crops :-\
She still has better altitude over us on the GH though :D
