who's been kicked off the most
« on: November 11, 2018, 16:44:56 »
I think I have been allotmenteering for about 20 years and in that time I have been kicked off twice The first a large cooperative association affiliated with the National Allotment Society and the second a small parish council controlled allotment.  On neither occaission was Arbitration available.  So am I the forum champ or can someone beat me?  If you do dare to enter this thread don't go into detail as to why you was kicked out.  There are certain people on this forum who take pleasure in finding fault with you.  I expect they will have a go at me for just posting this genuine fun competition.

Not finding fault but I am intrigued about getting kicked off.

The most common reason on our field is non cultivation but you need a history of long term neglect to actually get evicted. There are a number of plots where tenants do the bare minimum, but by putting in the odd appearance just before things get too bad they keep their tenancy.

The site doesn't have any silly rules so the only other way is doing something most people would heartily condemn, like theft of produce or damage to another tenants plot.

Really wierd are people who do something blatant like not visiting for a year, ignoring warning letters and final warnings, and then when evicted appeal to the local council for an adjudication. If you love your allotment so much wouldn't you want to visit more often?

And no, never been kicked off. Keep my plots tidy, keep to the rules, no reason to suspect it would ever happen.

As a site rep doing inspections with a council (non-gardening) clerk, who often tends to find fault, I often have to explain that what she thinks are weeds aren't, or when plotters have 'difficult circumstances' to deal with for a while. It keeps things friendly and helpful, most of the time, but we do sometimes have to evict people for non-cultivation if they've got waist high weeds and have obviously given up, but not given the plot and keys back, officially.

I wonder what you were 'guilty' of? ;)

C'mon nodig, you are just being a tease!

If we agree to award you the title of "allotment evictions all time champion of the world" will you stop being coy and spill the beans. We are all itching to know.

How about another competition? Closest guess. I'll start with a speculative punt.  Bonfires were banned on your site, but around November fifth, you bought a few sparklers had a big bonfire and hoped you'd not be noticed among all the other celebrations. Close?

Thanks for the award Beersmith, I will put it up on the mantlepeice.  No need to make guesses, my posting history reveal all.

My first kick-off (by re-entry of the group vice-chairman and his merry men) was in 2014 for causing a 'nuisance or annoyance'.  The rules allow eviction for this 'offence' (so no argument really) - but they omitted to let me know what specifically I had done wrong despite asking - a little bit like being charged with murder, but without a stated time, date or a named victim, and still being found guilty by a secret trial.

My second kick-off was in 2017 for causing a nuisance and annoyance (bonfire smoke complaint from neighbouring householder) - one offence - no verbal warning - go straight to jail.

There you go Beersmith.
