when to pull onions

Most of my onions have dropped and are all good sized do I leave them in the ground for a few weeks or do I pull them now

I generally pull mine (have done this years already!) as soon as they go over but we have rampant white root rot so it is best to get them out as soon as poss.
If you don't have rot then they can stand for a bit..
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

Mine too have gone over, been harvested, dried and stored.

Ours are all lifted, dried and safely stored

Never!!!
Lift them gently! Use a fork so as not to damage the roots. :happy7:

I'd leave a green still growing onion. Only when it flops do I pull mine. When they flop you can gently (ha ha) just pull them up as most of the roots will have given way and just a few will still be attached. I find this is the indication that its ready to be pulled out. I grow about 400-500 each year and am totally self sufficient and so are some of my friends!!

This is part of my first batch pulled last week - now in my cool greenhouse to dry.
