Rhubarb identification
« on: July 03, 2011, 13:00:27 »
My rhubarb is a bit old and knackered so I'm planning to lift and divide this winter. I will have spare bits of crown to give away and am wondering what sorts I've got, so I can give people a rough idea?

I have 2 clumps, both of which were there and well established when I got the plot:

Clump 1: thick green stalks, large leaves, quite sour, very prolific. Clump gets to be about 3 feet high.
Clump 2: slightly thinner stalks (but still fairly thick) which are green at the top and red at the bottom and quite stringy, sweeter than the other one but not quite as prolific, large leaves, also gets to be about 3 feet high.

Both sorts are ready about May so not especially early. Both send out a lot of flower stalks but this could just be because they are old.

Have done various searches but can't find anything that quite matches what I've got. I'm thinking that Clump 2 may be Victoria. Is it possible that Clump 1 is also Victoria but has grown a bit differently as the seeds were different?

Thanks! xx
