Lawn seeding.
« on: August 28, 2008, 11:15:41 »
Hello all, I have spent the last couple of months preparing the once neglected garden for a brand new lawn and flower beds. The whole area has been dug out, an area prepared for a lawn and then all is now covered with black weed suppressant. My question is when to plant the lawn seed. Would it be best to leave everything as it is and plant next year because basically this growing year is over and what is left of it is not looking too good.

I think September is OK for lawn seed sowing.

september is the best time to start a new lawn from seed. the soil will still be warm to encourage germination, weed growth is less in winter, you don't need the space in the winter, (you can keep off of it), watering not usually needed,(autumn fog/mist), grass will be established in time for next summers BBQ! ;)
You couldn't make it up!

the sooner the better if you have deciduous trees around. You want the grass up and running before the leaves fall onto the lawn area
