Training ?
« on: June 25, 2008, 22:56:03 »
Thanks to all for advice on my new hens, as I've only just started !

Had my girls Dierdre, Blanch, Audrey & Gail ! for nearly two weeks and they are proving to be very entertaining already, We put a few piles of dry soil into their run the other day for them to scratch around in, and it was hilarious watching them all choose a pile and snuggle down in it ! they all flapped around in the soil till they were covered !

They all eat from my hand now and usually run up to us when we approach the run, although when they are out they would back away, so I guess they are getting tamer, but how else can we 'train' them, I have to admit it I am a little nervous of actually picking them up !  I have done just to move them in the begining and know that I have to in case of injury or illness and also I want to clip their wings which I am dreading !! Please help !

Oh and when can i expect an egg?  I know they are only 18 wks but  ........
!!!!

I was told they are RIR but I presume some kind of hybrid ?

Well I was told I should clip their wings, as they will fly over the fence and be off! although they havent yet. Is it necessary ??

since my last post, they have now become really tame I can stroke them, they compete to eat out of my hand and I have picked them up a few times too !
