Topic: Onion Seed in strange places...

Hi Guys,

I am having a re-think of some my winter planting as i need to move some of my beds around to make room for the greenhouse.

The 3 beds i have put asside for seed onion, i now need for my fruit climbers ( boysenberry, loganberry & Tayberry ) and  i was wondering if i would not be able to plant the onion seed in the same bed as i am putting one plant in each bed there would be plenty of room for the onions and i would be harvesting the onions around he same time that the plant would be fruiting.

Any advice??

When I had planted my onion sets, I place the remainder in a row, touching each other under a newly planted perennial blackberry.

After a few weeks, I was pulling spring onions, using the smallest all the time. As the rest grew,I was able to use them as full sized onions, about 2" in diameter.

The photo shows the remaining onions on July 1st and the blackberry is now starting to take off.

Go ahead and plant with new soft fruit which will not really grow a lot until the onions are mature, although mine were sets, I do not think that 1st year fruit plants would be too much for the onions.
