Bargains Galore!
« on: February 16, 2006, 08:30:16 »
AS there seem to be many threads appearing about bargains that are to be had at the moment, I thought it might be an idea to try and put them all together under one thread.

My personal bargains have been, some additional seeds at 35 pence per packet from Poundland.
Redcurrent, Blackbery and Raspberry plants for £1 each at Poundland.

Seed Potatoes at about £2.30 for 3kg from Wilkonsons
Bonemeal at £1.50 and Growmore at £1, also from Wilkinsons.

Own brand seeds from Van Hauge garden centres.

Free plant labels on Johnsons seeds everywhere!

I also know people have found bargains at Aldi starting today, and at Woolworths.

Aren't we a bunch of great little bargain hunters! ;D

good idea - Homebase are selling off a few things half price at the mo (last seasons maybe ?).  I got :

-  tub of Growmore (£3.50 instead of £7something)
-  60l of multipurpose compost with John Innes, reduced from around £4 to £2, but also on buy two get one free.  They also had 50l peat free compost with JI for similar price (but not BOGOF).

Saw some tubs of bone meal and chicken pellets at half price (again around £3.50 ish) and some tool store / small shed things also half price.

There was I, poised over a hot keyboard, ready to order some lovely beautifully scented trailing double petunias at 5 for £7.95 or 10 for £12.95, when I happened to nip out to B&Q to discover - 10 of the same for a fiver!

Granted the online ones contained assorted colours, whereas the B&Q ones were one colour, but WOW! That's what I call a bargain.

B&Q.  Fuscia mini-pots, 10 for £5, knocked down to 10 to £3.95, knocked down to absolutely free because the plonker didn't ring them up even though he picked them up and moved them.... go figure.

Keep an eye out in B&Q, I was in yesterday and they have reduced their spring bedding (20% off), some weed control fabirc had been reduced, bark chippings are down to £2.12 for a 100 litre bag, but there was no change to the compost (they were just bringing more of that out).

Also went to Aldi and there was still some fruit trees left, with the tomato cane stands, spade and fork (I think 7.99 each), jeys fluid in the sqirty bottle :) , and also some week control fabric (I dont think it is UV stable though).

Happy shopping

I also looked in Lidls but they don't have any either, think they might've all gone now. :'(

Poundstretcher have been selling rolls of weed control fabric for £4 a pack. When I went to get some more on Saturday it was on offer at 2 for £6 - down a quid per pack. It's thin, but not a bad size - 8m x 1.5m (26ft x 5ft).

Our local KwikSave is selling off all its non-food stuff - the chain has been bought out by someone else, and must be having a clear out.  Ours seems to be specialising in garden stuff.

So far I've bought a garden vacuum (which will possibly get more use than the one indoors  ;) ) for £15, a garden hose set for £2.50, quite a few plastic troughs for inside the greenhouse for 50p, and stainless steel solar lights at £12 for 2 boxes of 4.

Other shops have had other things.  Someone elsewhere mentioned their local KwikSave was selling off bulbs (plants, not electric  :) ).  It might be worth a mooch.

B&Q were having reductions again yesterday. I bought a tray of six named varieties of foxgloves for 90p and two camelias , one red, one pink and both in bud for £2.00 each. :)

Been talking about the closure of our local Kwix this afters......apparently being bought by Somerfield......hadn't thought to check for garden stuff as it's only a small one......but worth having a look, tho!Thanx for the tip.
