« on: December 29, 2005, 19:17:31 »
not a recipe but....

do you prefer cheap xmas pudding from the supermarket or expensive ones??

sounds weird, but i prefer the cheaper ones, not a fan of nuts and i find the mroe expensive you go the higher the nut content. go to expensive and you could even get a nut roast!

Ha ha ha, you got three posts in there Debs !!!

I think I prefer the 'simpler' puddings which probably equate to the cheaper ones. To an extent, I think this also applies to mince pies, there seem to have been a lot of iced ones around this year, but I found these far to sickly sweet.
Sorry if that has been taking it off topic, but I know Adam likes mince pies too ...

That was the Rick Steins Christmas special Debs.  Also, on Great Food Live just before Christmas they recommended the Chrissy pudding from Kwicksave as being a good one!

I don't like Chrissy pud really.  Far to rich for me, I don't like treacle are molasses so go for lighter puds.

Delia Smith's recipe omitting the nuts is the best for me! :)

I like nuts (like tends to like :) ) so we've just bought our second pud of the season -b*ggers just won't reduce them though -there's 2 4 1 on the mince pies.

I love Christmas Pudding but for bought ones I need to check the ingredients carefully because I suffer from a severe Cow's Milk intolerence. It's surprising how many C.Ps contain milk, the vast majority in Tesco and Sainsbury's. Anyway I bought a half price one out of Tesco (own brand) and it was disgusting. Lumps of peel the size of Currants (don't mind tiny bits) and something that left a waxy coating on the roof of my mouth  :-X I actually had to scrape it off with my fingernails. Not daring to try the Value one. As for the Mince Pies (again the vast majority contain Milk) Sainsbury's Basics are fab.

Saw the Rick Stein programme. New Year's Resolution was to buy some Aldi puds (reduced!) after the hols for the store cupboard - special weakness for Xmas pud & vanilla ice cream - round about July!
