I think about them as all this year's crops, so where you followed potatoes with leeks I wouldn't be planting potatoes or any of the onion tribe until 2013.

Could you kindly retype you post in more clear and concise manner to make it more easily understandable. Perhaps using punctuation and capitalizing the the first letter in each sentence.

I think the following is what you to intend first part  you post to mean but I might be incorrect.
Quote
1. I plan on planting  kale over the winter in the bed, I will be planting my early potatoes
2. I also plan on planting leeks over the winter in the bed , I intend on planting my main crop potatoes.

the last part of  message below makes no sense please revise it, so we can understand what you mean.

It's impolite to correct people. We don't do it on this site as we don't know if the person has problems do we.

I was slightly confused as well, I just wasn't grumpy enough to say  Grin

I think I know roughly what you mean. I've been pondering the same thing, how to rotate, but without leaving plots idle. Fitting everything in.

I think everything you put in 'counts' in terms of avoiding pests (as I think Unwashed was saying) - so that bed has gone 'potatoes - alliums - brassicas' and then next you put in whatever goes after brassicas (eg beans or whatever) and go through the full cycle, before going back to potatoes.

Choosing the crop rotation system which works for your particular crops and garden is not easy, is it?

Not quite sure what you mean but have a look at this site (dig for victory) and have a look at the PDF of pages 2&3 of the crop rotation.

It is basic but it is always better to start that way and build up.

the link is

http://www.earthlypursuits.com/AllotGuide/DigforVictory1/DigForVictory1_2-3.htm

best of luck and enjoy your garden

jazzidoodle using a mobile device is not an excuse for your first post, you just need to take you time when write a post. By not taking my time is how i usually garble my posts.

Still you still have not explain what the last part of your post means, when you explain what it means i will gladly answer your question.

I find crop rotation quite confusing at times. I always have a lot more potatoes than anything else. They take up two beds so I have to use two beds for each type of veg. I don't really have the need for more than one bed of the other sorts. Also when I have filled two beds with the potatoes, I have no where to put my other root veg. Fortunately I have eight similar sizes beds, but I am wanting to put a polytunel up which will reduce my beds.
It's not easy, this allotmenting!!!!!!

Hope this post is acceptable to the critic.

may be you all should read the "For Season garden" by Eliot Coleman
the Nine Main Groups of crops as divided by Coleman in feb 2010 Mother Earth News article
http://www.motherearthnews.com/Organic-Gardening/Crop-Rotations-Plant-Nutrients-Healthy-Soil.aspx?page=4
You can simplify your rotations by sorting your crops into these major plant families:

• Onion family: onions, garlic, leeks and shallots

• Carrot family: carrots, celery, parsley and parsnips

• Sunflower family: lettuce, sunflowers and a few other leafy greens

• Cabbage family: cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale and many other leafy greens, as well as rutabagas and kohlrabi

• Spinach family: beets and chard

• Cucumber family: cucumbers, melons, squash and gourds

• Pea family: peas and beans

• Grass family: corn, wheat, oats and rye

• Tomato family: tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and potatoes

then for the purposes of rotation do I consider the bed this year to have grown potatoes, or leeks and kale? actually you not describing crop rotation. you describing secession planting
which is another dynamic entirely.

this link might help about crop rotation the plant that need to be rotated and those the need it less.
