Does anyone know of how to remedy constipated chickens?

I am pretty sure that is what is wrong with my favourite one at home and she has been looking sad and bandy legged for about a week now.

I was hoping to give here a "bath" in warm water and a bit of a massage as she is "very hard" down on her bottom half.  She is still eating but is not a happy chook.

I will be trying to get this done at lunch time so would appreciate early replies if anyone knows.

Thanks

Would apple cider vinegar help or are you already giving it to them? I'm struggling to get hold of some.

I really don't know!  She had not been laying for a good few weeks so unless she had started up again I don't think so.

I have only the 2 at home so checked in their house and there is very little poo in there from where they sleep - so assumed that maybe this is also another cue.  Poor girl tho she is walking about with her legs wide apart and looks "very low slung"

I will bathe her at lunchtime anyway as it is a warm day and I should be able to get her dried and hopefully it will help.  I have got a syringe now so will try and put some oil down her also.  I will see how it goes!

Thanks for the help so far!

Well - Went home at lunch time - got warm water in a basin - brought chicken in and kept her there massaging posterior end - she relaxed after a while - nothing came out though - apart from the dirt from around her rear.

I also got a syringe and popped down a few mililitres or whatever (not much) of oil - (down her throat!)- then popped her outside to sit in the sun!  She seemed quite comfortable with all these doings - so hopefully - I will give her another few mls of oil and the earth may move for her tonight - here's hoping anyway.

Got home at lunch time and she had died - poor little chook - she was a bit special - but there we go.  She had enjoyed her breakfast this morning I gave her loads of quartered grapes - which she used to adore - so at least she enjoyed her last meal.

Ah well!

Oh dear,

I'm sorry to hear that.  My dog, in my avatar, died a couple of months ago, similarly, but she was old.

very sorry to hear that indeed.
