I have a small rose arch, one of the ornate metal type, only about 4 ft wide and 6ft high, with sides about 12" in a fairly restricted area of my garden which gets the sun in the morning. I have tried various climbers and other plants at the base but they have all ended up getting too big. Can anyone recommend a clematis or other climber which wouldn't be too vigorous or could at least be chopped back if it was! It's in the only bit of my garden that's visible from our living room so would like something pretty to look at!

I would say a nice rose Arthur Bell and a clematis alpina to compliment it.
Yellow and pale blue go well together.
