I had to plant something.  These two are coming up from seed from Manuel's pumpkin that he gave me last year.  I have more seed if I have 'jumped the gun'.  Wonder if they will fruit this year.  I will pot them up as they get bigger and keep them on the kitchen window cill until the weather gets warmer.  Well, if it doesn't work, they cost me nothing. As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

They do, but Borlotti isn't as young as once was and forgets these things.... also seed maniac and compulsively plants things  Cool

What Chriscross is trying to say is that Borlotti is an old bird who is bored and likes to experiment.  Grin Grin Grin Grin     Kiss

If you want giant pumpkins you need to sow early. I have decided to try and grow a bigger one than on my avatar, I am 4 years older and if I succeed will update it.

I have only half-heartedly tried to beat it for the last 3 years but am going to have a go this year.

I sowed mine on the first March.

I'm not sure if sowing Atlantic Giant early is a good idea.  The plants grow so quickly that I know I wouldn't have space to keep one under cover till planting-out time in June.

The seed for this 186lb pumpkin

was sown on May 6th last year.

I don't plant any squashes before April, I'd have no room for them.

I wait until April at the very least, because they get big so quickly. But can't wait!  Cheesy
