Caterpillars
« on: August 05, 2008, 10:04:46 »
Help,  Got  cauliflowers, Cabbage and Callabrasse.  but they are full of caterpillars.  I try to get the eggs off by hand.  Is the only way to net them.  I soak in salt water before I cook them but there are that many floating about that I am never quite sure.  Some people are not that bothered but I just can`t eat em.   :'(

Which reminds me I need to do a squishing session... netting isn't fine enough to keep them out...  :-X

I have 8mm net on my brassicas it stops the lepidoptera varieties.

Look at the sprout and blackcurrant cages on my video.

Cabbage White can get through 10mm net!

Thank you for your replies, I thought I could use debris or scaffolding netting, I know a man supplies netting of that kind .  what do you think.   :-\

I'm finding it useful this year. But it's too heavy for seedlings laid direct - unlike Fleece or 8mm netting.

I hate caterpillars in cauli or calabrese so I net my brassica bed with enviromesh - also keeps the aphids off. Expensive but said to last 10 yrs. Had this now for 4 years and haven't seen any deterioration in the net.
