Tomates,sweet peppers, aubergine, chilli & fennel bulb

I've just been reading my kitchen garden magazine and they reckon fennel does well with carrots, parsnips and celery..and it needs quite moist conditions ..we plant all the others together, in the poly borders, oh, no..the aubergine are in black buckets, we were told they 'perform' better in them  ;D
