For my crissy the OH bought me an extra vent kit and louvre kit for my toughened glass g/h.

Went to fit it today (instead of doing homework - no contest btw).

Got out the existing pane, measured it 10mm too large !  poo !

Phoned glazier to find out how much it would be to cut it to fit!

TOUGHENED GLASS CAN'T BE CUT !  double poo !

OK bite the bullet and price up a new sheet already cut to size.  600mm x 545mm x 4mm.  That will be £18.50 inc VAT.  WHAT ??????   :o

Rang a few more places, and the price went from between £9 - £28.  Something strange going on here !  Told one of the mid-range merchants about the cheap pane.  "Bite their hand off - I can't even buy it in for that".  Phoned back cheapo place, double checked the measurements again and sure enough it was £9.  Only difference perhaps was that cheapo place didn't polish the edges.  Well inside the vent frame I don't NEED polished edges.

They won't take the order by phone and they are a little further away but to save £19 I can cope with the expense of the petrol.  So will go and order it at the weekend.  All kits bits now back in box.

What a palarver and I've not even plucked up the courage to look at the louvres yet !

SO, take my advice, when you're buying a new greenhouse, get the extras to start with !

Lorna, I said "oh dear, i should go and treat myself to something nice" ... to get over the shock.

Went and got another 10 grow bags at Aldis.  Got my mum some lily and freesia bulbs for Mother's Day, got myself some freesia bulbs (also for mother's day), and a long trough to hang over the ballustrade of the deck.

I have done NO homework (well the boss did tell me not to lol), prepared a bed for the annuals, planted out some peas and did loads of other nice things, so feel heaps better now !

I broke two panes of glass in my greenhouse when it moved house.   For safety reasons I wanted to replace the panels using polycarbonate sheeting.   when I priced it up @ my local Focus their smallest sheets available were £15 and would have still left a lot of waste.

I rang a local glazing company who replied "oh yes, we carry greenhouse glass in stock as standard, £2.50 per pane!!!!"

Guess who got the business.....

Oh dear What a palaver right enough! My greenhouse is made out of old windows the council took out of local housing to replace with double glazing. Not made by me i hasten to add! ;) I'm not that skilled.

Anyway one (or more) of the local yobos had thought it was good fun to smash panes in the door and roof do there's broken glass everywhere. I haven'y had the heart to do anything about it yet.

Actually I'm half in mind to replace it with a "real" greenhouse since it's pretty small and lean-to. Bit worried that the yobos would have a field day though. ::)

I hate "shopping around" always end up feeling as if someone is trying to take advantage going by the difference in prices - so congrats Mrs KP for your perseverance!

Grawrc, our g'house is old windows too constructed by OH many years ago with a roof of clear corrugated sheeting and so far it has withstood gales and stones!  Like you am tempted by a modern new one then I think we'll just wait another year and so on and so on...

i very rarely ring around Wicker.  but for £18.50 i felt the need.

went up there on saturday, and it will be ready for collection this saturday.

apparently my "store" seem to be the wholesalers for local merchants and my perseverance has cut out the middle man/margin putter onners !

once you've found your local tradesman, they're like goldust.

still wouldn't want to reglaze the whole g/h though !!!  seems i got a snip when i bought the thing and didn't even realise it !
