potting sheds

Anyone here got a potting shed, ie with large glass frontage and shed back?

Having had my shed and trees removed by the storm last week  I find myself looking for something suitable for storage of equipment but capable of being a planting/growing/overwintering space too.

Any recommendations? Have found some nice ones on the web*; wondered if they are as good as they look. (Any I pick has to be small ie max 6x8' as garden's only 25'x30'!)

Nice but not cheap!

I am patiently waiting for my OH to make me a shed/potting shed/structure as my Christmas present for 2006....I'd like a potting shed type one too, but I'm concerned about the visibility of tools etc that might tempt light fingers.......

I also fancy doing one of those green roofs, where you plant it up with succulents etc, but then I guess you wouldn't be able to harvest as much water for saving? Just letting my imagination run riot here!

My friend's got one. Main thing to watch for is that it's correctly orientated to get the best of the sun (hers isn't). Lovely potting shed back, tho, which I envy.

Yes, I thought they were a bit dear too. All depends on what the insurers give me for my old one, which was a corner summerhouse/shed so with luck it'll only be a bit more to upgrade myself. (Keeps fingers crossed.)

It would be facing almost due south, probably SSW.

Have a bigger problem first - insurance don't seem to want to help clear the site, and there's 4' pieces of concrete foundations where the tree roots broke the old shed floor, and I can't lift them! So someone's going to have to pay to do it and I've got to brave an 0870 number (and no calls after 6pm) in order to get through to ask. Argh.

Hi Moonbells, to save you some time and pennies have you looked at the "say no to 0870" website (www.saynoto0870. something)?  you might find a local  geographic number and in the past I've found they get answered quicker. Basically you type in the company name or the 0870 number and it tells you the alternatives.  Good for DLVA and other government numbers too.  Hope this helps. TC

Thanks TC, I already looked there before I read your reply! They are good, I managed to find an 0845 instead. Got told off the chap at other end who said I'd gone to the wrong city and would I like the direct number?  I said nope, don't want an 0870 and he went 'um' and transferred me!

Now trying to get tree surgeon. So far, left one message (no reply) and talked to a second who was going to phone back tonight and didn't.

I'm new here but been lurking for a while. My husband built me a potting shed at the back of the garage many years ago. He used breeze blocks (I think). There is glass at the back and front and the roof is made of that plastic corrugated stuff you can buy in sheets. It has electricity in it through from the garage and we have plugged in two of those very very low wattage heaters. Just frost free really but this week I noticed that although I covered stuff in the cold greenhouse I have still lost a couple of things whereas, in the potting shed all is OK. It's my favourite place and although I am not in great health I am really happy when I am messing around in there. Just wanted to share. Hope I didn't bore you.
