Perhaps the greatest reason for DIY is that you DON'T need to peel, losing the most nutritious bit of the carrot?

A good scrub is all you need.

Some of mine get peeled, others don't. The main criteria appear to be the condition of the carrots when they reach the chopping board. The straight ones get prepared after washing, skin and all. The 'ugly' ones get bludgeoned into shape, so often end up losing lots of the outer layers. I don't worry, everything that isn't consumed gets reprocessed, and the carrots are tasty enough anyway.
