Guests for lunch?

I didn't know that birds waited until you got out the coffee and sandwiches before they started to eat.
When I am working on the allotment I keep looking to see if the birds are taking the seed I have put out for them, but rarely see them eating. But today because was is so cold I ate in the greenhouse facing the trees, and as soon as I started to eat all sorts of birds came down and started to eat with me. I knew a few of them but I will have to get my book out and look up the others. It happened again when I had a second break so I don't know if it was just a coincident or not.
I will take more notice from now on.
Has anybody else  noticed this happening?
