Weed control fabric

My other half, at my request, has been to Poundstrecher and bought some weed control fabric for £4 for 8x1.5m.  However, on the label, it says I should treat the area with weedkiller (NO!) or a mulch sheet before laying this down.  Does this mean that this stuff is not good at supressing weeds that are already there or do they need getting rid of first?  If that is the case, it is not really the stuff I need.

Weedkiller? rubbish (not you)- the weed control fabric kills the weeds-there is no need to use weedkiller unless youre in a rush in which case you wouldnt need a sheet ??? very strange. I used a sheet like that and it killed the weeds in a couple of months. Theyll grow really big then keel over from exhaustion

We've used lots of this stuff from our local poundstretcher (ours has changed its name for some reason to in-store) and we didn't put weedkiller down first. We've found it ok - we were a bit worried that it wouldn't do the trick because it was cheap but no problems so far  :)

Guarenteed for five years and made in Lincolnshire (Spalding) so it must be good  ;D

As mentioned in one of my threads I started to use it this year due to time, I can report high success, the only problem I have had is the garlick, it has'nt split so I now have golf ball size cloves, not sure if this was down to the fabric or the mild winter, everything else is looking so healthy.

What I would give for golf sized balls - mine are the size of a ball bearing and covered in fungus.
