Any tips on getting a decent head on a cauli I tried them last year and got marble size heads if that. It was my first year on a neglected plot and I have since given it a good manuring so hoping for better this year. But I may also try another variety as well

In my opinion only buy/ grow F 1 hybrid varieties.

Candid Charm is quite good!

Same here.  F1 hybrids only.

Candid Charm F1        -  harvest Jun-Oct
Wallaby F1                 -  harvest Oct-Nov
Triomphant F1            -  harvest Dec-Jan
Walcheren Winter 3 F1 -  harvest Mar-Apr

I try to grow Wachren winter caulies.( A very unfashionable seed these days.)In well manured spots. I think the secret to very large heads is to sprinkle sulphate of ammonia around the stalk as the head starts to develop ,about 35grms,water it in well, but dont let it touch the plant in case of burns to it. It is safe to use and guarantees a large size head that you require. Could it be a PH problem?

medallion, highly recommended. Massive tight heads and strong glossy foliage
