HI

About 2 months ago i gave a friend of mine some seeds tomato and chillis to get her started i would ask how they were doing and for ages she has said good until saturday when she said they dont seam to be doing anything. So i offered to take a look as we were passing and to my horror she had started them off in a little seed tray a module one that she had some flower plugs sent to her from T&M and though that was it they were still in the tray.

Some of the tomatoes are over a foot high and some were about 4 inches with about 6-8 leaves on.

I have said i was not sure if they would now A) survived being planted out and B) produce anything...

HELP what do i tell her to stop her losing intrest in growing her own things?

Oh dear! Well I am not sure that they will fruit now, although planting out will stop them from dying!! I was rather cross with a workmate who took 2 of my spare tomatoes and then kept them in their (temporary) little pots ON HIS DESK! until they got huge and leggy and then they were no good for anything so I expect they ended up in the bin.
I suppose that if she plants them out, you  never know what might happen, she might get some late tomatoes but I would rather think it was too late for the chillies to fruit now. Mine are just fruiting now and they have been in the ground since early May...
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

Just show her how you grow yours and give her some tomatos so she can see how great home grown taste, then tell her that you will help her next year.
