My PC has picked up a trojan that webroot can't quarantine so I want to restore my PC's factory setting, anyone know how I'd do this?

MickW,
If you have XP, have you tried 'system restore'?

Or if you have all the CDs for your programs, including your operating system - why not re-format your hard drive and start again.  Time for a spring clean  ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Hopefully a simple system restore will work for you.

Try disabling system restore and then scanning again to see of the trojan is still there....if its gone, enable your restore again. Many trojans etc hide in the restore files.

However,if you must go back to your factory settings you will need your master cd's.You will lose everything so you will need to copy anything you need to save onto disc or something. You will need to unplug any scanners and printers etc if you end up using this method.

Hopefully a simple system restore will work for you though.

Before you reformat you could try one the more powerful  on-line scanner cleaner like trend micro house call, just go to there home page and click on  house call when the new page opens click on "Scan Now. It's Free! "  launch the scanner and let it load up till you see idle   then run it . this should find things you never knew you had ,did for me does take a hour or so but worth it

or BitDefender  Scan On-line another good just click on where its says Scan Online
this only works if you are using IE thou  , do both and you should be ok
