I have 2 Greco marrow plants which are now very big and sprawling, very strong and healthy.  One plant has grown a huge marrow, which is still getting bigger.  There are more small marrows developing, but dont seem to be getting any bigger.  Some just withered.  The second plant is much the same - just small marrow not going anywhere.  Do you only get one marrow per plant?  I heard something about male and female plants - do i have 2 males?   help!....

Thanks

Not male nad female plants,  just male and female flowers, there are both on the one  plant. They always lose a few at first till the pollination gets going right, don't worry as long as the plants are growing and are healthy they will be fine XX Jeannine

The female flowers have little fruits behind them.  The males are on a long stalk.  The insects usually pollinate them by going from one to the other, but if there are female flowers with no males around at the right time the fruit behind withers away.  Don't worry, as Jeannine says, they'll soon get going and you'll be giving them away!!  :) :) :)

Really?  thats amazing! So, the small courgette-type things with yellow flowers are female?  Are the male ones yellow too?
How many marrows will a plant produce?

Usually more than you can eat!!

Is the same true of butternut squash?

Jeannine

Pretty much, flowers the same, may ramble a bit more,it depends on the type of butternut, your butternut will keep longer when you harvest it 3/4months probably again depends on the variety, I still have 7 winter squash in storage from last year and they are just fine. XX Jeannine

Excellent, I have nine plants developing well.  Might need another shed to store my crop!
