Purple sprouting broccoli

This is the first spring harvesting purple sprouting broccoli and it looks like it will be lovely. My question is, after harvesting do the plants die and need replacing or will they sprout again next year.

Yes unfortunatly the plants will try to run to seed , then die. I am just starting to crop mine and a week ago I planted the seed for next years crop in a seed bed. Try to get them planted out by the longest day, so they have plenty of time to grow big before the cold weather arrives.

You can grow broccoli 'Nine Star Perennial' which is a short-lived perennial broccoli (about three years) if you want it to come again next year. http://pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Brassica+oleracea

Went to my plot today and was delighted to find my 9 Star Perennial will soon be ready to pick! The first time i've grown it, and thanks to Tim for the tip.It's my only broc this year due to 1. bad labelling 2.voracious pigeons. My only problem is that I've put it in the wrong place.......... of course........ ???

Thanks to all for your help, I will certainly get some more on the go for next year and put some spring cabbage in as well. It is so nice being able to pick stuff now and still love going up to get the odd leak and even parsnip still!

Hi jfrosty, you don't plant spring cabbage until August/September. They stand over winter and head up in spring. But if you require cabbage in about twelve weeks, I suggest you plant something like Primo or Golden Acre.
