Hello.

I was hoping to pick your brains re. some snap dragons that I propagated from seed in early Feb.

At the moment they are growing away happily on one of my windowsills waiting to be put out when the time is right.

My question is this. They are growing very well, and I want to nip out the tips as I do with so many other plants, but never having grown these from seed before wanted to check that it will not harm the plant to do so?

Ahhhhhh....interesting that you managed to get them going, me and my mate Maz tried to germinate them ......and got nothing, not a sausage  >:(

I was really upset because she had sent them to me as a little pressie in the post and i was looking so forward to my display.

I thought it odd though, that neither of us had any luck with them ???

Good luck with yours, i hope that they give you a great display this summer.
Sorry i dont know the answer to your question but then i am the last person to be able to help you on this one ;)

I have found that they are not the easiest of plants to raise from seed - they appear to do better in a soil based seed compost but that tends to be expensive.

The answer to the question about pinching out is yes if you want a bushy plant, if you want a single large spike of flower for cutting then don't

If your garden is quite sheltered and warm, try letting some self seed. They are slightly tender, but might grow. My best ones have always been the self-seeded lot. But my garden is quite warm.
gone to pot :D

Aqui,

I have self seeding too, but that doesn't make the ones I try to raise indoors perform any better - they are growing in soil which might be the trick as I mentioned earlier.

I am growing some from seed this year for first time too and must admit they took off like rockets but they are very very small.  Is this normal?  They are still at the 2 little leaf stage (sorry first real year growing seeds don't know correct terms yet) but they seem to be growing very slowly even though they are on nice bright windowsill.

Thanks all.

I do not use peat, so they are growing in a loam based compost, so that could be the answer!

Justy, mine started off tiny, and I thought that they would never come to anything, but they are growing away well now and seem very happy.

I was thinking of growing them for cutting, but I often cant bear to take the plants off when they look their best! I am still undecided, but at least I know now that it doesn't matter if I do or don't.

Thanks again.

The ones HB and I tried to grow were trailing SD's.

Last year I managed to germinate 3 seeds. I put them into baskets and when the time came to empty the baskets I just left them thinking the perenials can be taken out in spring. Was I surprised to find I still have 2 that are growing away quite nicely. So it seems they are hard to germinate .......... or kill!  ;D

Anyone else done trailing snaps?

I'll do you a photo when they begin to flower.
A friend is someone who thinks you are a good egg,
even though you are slightly cracked.

Mine are Royal Bride, part of an ebay bargain. Trouble was instructions were in German!!

They have grown well and are now outside, still in their pots. This variety is supposed to be scented and tall 3'. Only found this out as they were free on this weeks AG.

I can't get nemesia to grow!
