Moving a magnolia

I have a very beautiful Magnolia Susan which is now about 15 years old.
Unfortunately it has outgrown the space that it is now in and i was wondering about the possibility of digging it up and moving it.
I have the perfect place in mind but wondered what you thought?
As i would be devestated if i lost it.

It is in full bloom right now but i was thinking after it had stopped flowering might be a good time if i was going to take the plunge and give it a new home.

Has anyone any thoughts?

Goodness, scarey prospect!  I moved a Stellata, but that was only a few ft high!! If you were going to attempt it, I'd wait til autumn when it had lost its leaves and had become dormant.  If you move it now, it definitely won't like it! You'd have to try and get as big a root ball as possible, but I still think it would be really risky.  Different plant, I recently tried to move a 7 year old CHoisya.  It had a lovely big root ball etc, let's just say I'm now in the market for a replacemnt!! :o Good luck Lottie

Thanks for the reply UP, youve never given me food for  thought and youve most likely nipped in the bud, so to speak ;) plans to move my beloved magnolia.

We can all have mad ideas now and then cant we?  ;D
