So my friends, Merry Christmas from Canada, I am still alive and kicking another year. I hope everyone is well and I will try and stay around a bit. It is 1030am here so I am off to bed as you are getting  breakfast. I do have a new laptop so hopefully no problems like last time.

Another week to Christmas when I will cook a goose for myself and my Chihuahua baby Mathilda. Sadly I lost my old 2 Chi sisters with weeks of each other early in the year and found the courage to find a new baby.

I am still gardening in my greenhouse and large pots too so not quite out of the loop yet and my son has just built me a Hydroponic tower. It is as bi as me and I haven't a clue how to use it. I still have my 3 tier light fitting in my work room so I can grow mini stuff through the winter All in all I am doing OK

Merry Christmas to you too Jeannine,  lovely to hear from you and that you are still jogging along with your greenhouse gardening.

I still manage to cook for myself too, duck this Christmas with all the trimmings, but unfortunately I can no longer do much else these days. I'm very lucky to have two wonderful friends who make it possible for me to still live in my own home. Rebecca cleans and runs errands locally and John keeps the weeds down and the veggie beds producing crops from the seedlings I manage to grow in my mini greenhouse. He also takes me shopping in my wheelchair every two weeks and together with his wife Sandra, does anything else around the house that needs attention. So, like you, I'm still jogging along  :happy7:.

Enjoy your goose Jeannine and I hope that 2025 will be good to you and yours.

Jeannine,  The same applies here too.  Your seeds from that magic parcel are still being multiplied and appreciated.  Happy you can still enjoy your garden, but sad you had to say goodbye to two of your doggies.  Enjoy the puppy.
Wishing you very happy festive days ahead.  xx

PS Please don't be a stranger on here.  We love hearing from you.

And best wishes from me too. Smaller garden with less to do these days and no veg growing. Hope the new year brings you all that you could wish for yourself.
Gardening is the great leveller.

Hi ,Tricia so good yo hear  you are still coping and God Bless the folks that are helpimg you. I am going to have to hire someone to do those things for me but the service starts at $40 an hour just for cleaning and BP taking , I dread to think just how high the cost goes, You are lucky in the UK as we have to pay for some medical things here, Anyway not complaining,  This getting old thing really sucks and I never signed up for it  LOl

Hi Galina, good to hear from you too. Seed catalogues are just starting to arrive so all is right with the world. It sort of marks the beginning of the year for me. Have a great season. XX Jeannine

I love your comments, Jeannie, please  don't stop being in touch on A4A.  I haven't 'known' you as long as some other the others on the site, but you live in our kitchen when i'm doing bottling, or canning as  I think you call it.  I was searching the A4A archives (going back nearly 15 years) just now to try and find out when it was you gave me your solid advice on  bottling safely, particularly tomatoes, and just as relevant, figs, and their need for acid.  I've always paid attention to that.  I now bottle tomato sauce with the addition of a little citric acid at the end, and always cook figs in wine, honey and lemon juice first. And I think of you!
I'm amazed looking through at my posts, just how many photos I put up and how many of my favourite recipes are still there!

Jeannine

Well good for you, you have the canning sorted, now how about making your own sausages, then you can keep a couple of hens, pick your spuds and have good old sausage, egg ands chips, unheard of here by the way.

I still miss England very much still a Yorkshire gal  I especially miss the gardening crowd but what can you do eh.

Have fun in your garden and your kitchen XX Jeannine

Funny you should talk about sausages, Jeannie - I've just been to the local big supermarket, where at this time of year there is a big pork fair. It attracts so many local people, buying  sides of pork, whole legs for making ham, all the meat and skins for sausages, liver and throat (goula) for making pâté (which I've just bought and made, 25 jars), and all the other bits, including heads, trotters and hearts of course.  I've just bottled a dozen tongues, which make a super supper.
This week we were treated to Dios - local specialité from the nearby vallée d'Ossau, made by a friend, using the ears, skin, tail and snout!  We told a friend from St Lucia who told us their family made the same, and  her in-laws the same in Belgium.  No waste there!

Jeannine

Great stuff gee I am envious I would love to have been there with you.

I can buy snouts and tails in the local  Oriental store nearby and chicken feet too but never have although I do buy some pretty weird stuff according to my daughter..never could find the courage to buy the uterus though

I really have to make sausage this next week or two, but it is hard for me now and I make haggis sausages too, there will be a bit of haggis in the shops about now for Robbie Burns night which is in a few days then it will be gone again'

Oh I really am envious ..
