I think frost damage or scorch if they have been covered with poly, but might be wrong.

That's frost damage. My 3 rows of Lady Cristi have got it 2/3 days ago. Incidentally I have tried all varieties of early potatoes and both me and my family all agree that Lady Cristi suit all our needs as the best early/salad potato for our own culinary uses.

Yes, we all do.
Despite my advance warning, some of mine look like that. They were earthed up to cover, on Friday/Saturday. However, the strongest (Earlies) broke through during Sat pm-Sun and are struck.
Was recorded as minus 2.3 deg C for approx 4 hours on early Monday morning (Crondall weather.co.uk, nearby)
Late plantings not quite showing, may be more to go in yet!!
Win some, lose some, I suppose.

Let nobody tell you it is easy. If it was, anybody could do it! If you hit a birdie on every hole, how many would you play?
