I identified a plant for ellie2cats as being Collomia grandiflora.  The following May she very kindly sent me a few plants which I planted that have grown, flowered then self-seeded on the plot every year since.  Usually it's no more than around twenty plants but this year it's hundreds which I've left to grow and flower.  I think that last year's dry, hot summer was the reason this has happened.
Sadly Ellen died in 2010 but every year when the flowers appear I quietly thank her.
