Hi all,
I can get hold of a lot of shredded paper(non glossy) if I wanted it.   I could put it all in a compost bin but the problem I would have is not enough garden waste to match it.

Could I dig the newspaper in to the soil, i'd imagine that if the soil was kept moist it would rot away quite quickly.

This would be for my new lottie which has been previously uncultivated.

Cheers, Mark

Lady of the Land

I dug shredded paper into the soil in February, then dug my potato spits in same soil approx 4 weeks later and the majority of the paper had disappeared (presumably had rotted down).
I did put put manure in with the paper so may have helped.

Thanks for the reply- I may as well incorperate some in to the soil- theres nothing to lose.

BAGGY

I did nt think of putting it in spud trenches.  We used it for strawbs and pumpkins last year so they weren't laying on the soil.

I would, but directly behind the lottie is a kiddies play park so I dont think that would go down well!!    If I did pee on it would it be ok to put in the bin depite the fact that there is not much vegetable matter in there?

Cheers, Mark

Yep - as p is rich in nitrogen, you want something rich in carbon - newspaper, sawdust,................ rather than the green stuff.

Get yourself a shed and/or bottle to erm, store it in!
