Christmas cactus repotting

I know it is early.  Every year I repot my Christmas cacti but they are now getting quite big.
Should I prune or divide them?  If the second how?

Personally I would not divide them.

The normal method is to take leaf bud cuttings now.

Sever as many as you need and insert them around the edge of a pot/s.


Effectively you could prune them and use the prunings as cuttings.

Then when you have a few cuttings rooted you could if if you wish try dividing it.

At least in this way if your divisions fail you have a load of cuttings to replace thew parent plant.


If you do decide to take this route could you get back to us and let us know how you got on, particularly if yopu do decide to divide your plant.

Thanks a lot for that, can I still do it now?  If I prune it now, would it reduce the amount of flowers in the bit that remains?
